- 嘉靖作为封建时代最高统治者，作为当时体制内一切腐朽的关键点，坚定不移地巩固着他的皇权。他要权利而非责任，要享受而非制约，养严党替他遮风挡雨，遮去批判毁誉和御史的青史挞伐。用不用严党倒不倒严，何时倒怎么倒，只在于嘉靖觉得是否需要。养成王朝腐朽这种土壤，他才是最大的万恶之源。此剧有种蚀骨的冷，这种冷，恰恰是因为它的真实。它杜绝了其他历史剧中对于权利和政治的意淫。没有什么邪不胜正和所谓好官坏官，没有脸谱化和政治正确，你很难用非黑即白去给剧中人物定性，人物的行为由立场和目的推动，让人深思。虽海瑞才是编剧力主刻画的悲剧人物，但他是帝国根深蒂固政治体制下的牺牲品，因道德的至高和精神的绝望而被塑造成自我牺牲的殉道者。而权利的弄潮儿不过换了一批又一批，百姓却还是那批百姓。生死复往循环无限，中外皆同古今复然。
