- Farmer Hwang Man-bok goes into debt to send his oldest son, Yun-ho, to medical school. Man-bok even uses the money he got selling his neighbor's cattle for Yun-ho's tuition. Man-bok's second son Chang-ho goes to jail instead and Man-bok dies from guilt over Chang-ho. Afterwards, Yun-ho becomes a doctor.
